Banana Cacao Smoothie

This creamy cacao smoothie has the taste of a chocolate shake but is packed with healthful ingredients like frozen banana, cacao powder, and cacao nibs. 

This cacao smoothie was one of the nicest I've eaten in a long time. It's creamy, chocolatey, and I adore the texture that the cacao nibs bring. 

Although both cocoa and cacao are derived from the same Theobroma cacao tree, the processing differs significantly.  

Cacao is a term used to describe cacao pods, beans, or nibs. After the beans are roasted, their name changes to cocoa. 

Both cocoa powder and cacao powder are made in the same way, but cacao powder is made from raw cacao beans that are processed at a low temperature and milled into a powder,  

whereas cocoa powder is made from roasted cacao beans that are processed at a high temperature and milled into powder.  

Cocoa powder is frequently alkalized during processing (also known as Dutch-processed) to lessen bitterness and acidity.To put it simply, cacao is raw, whereas cocoa is roasted.  

Cacao beans lose some of their nutrition during the roasting process, therefore cacao products (such as cacao powder and nibs) contain more minerals and antioxidants.
