Golfers score record lows at Cognizant Classic on Champion Course

Palm Beach Gardens— The Champion Course at PGA National appears to have lost its edge after recent efforts to make it softer for pros.

Champion Austin Eckroat recorded 17-under, the greatest by an event winner on the Champion Course

while a record 27 golfers shot 10-under or better at the 2024 Cognizant Classic.

Only 11 golfers shot 10-under or better in the 17 previous years of the event at PGA National, with no double-digit underpar scores.

Chris Kirk and Eric Cole reached a playoff at a record 14-under in the final Honda Classic last year

One of the lowest scoring tournaments at the event location saw only two players shoot 10-under or higher.

Eckroat won by three strokes Monday, but he knew he was trailed by a group of players who may capitalize on scoreable conditions.

"I check the standings while playing. "I'm not afraid to look," Eckroat stated.
