Lainey Wilson leads 2023 CMA Awards nominations (again) with near-record-breaking 9 nod

Lainey Wilson leads the 2023 Country Music Association Awards nominations for the second consecutive year, with nine nominations.

And the "Heart Like a Truck" singer made history by becoming the first artist to top the CMA nominations list in their first two appearances on the ballot.

Her nine nominations tied her for second most in a single year, behind Merle Haggard and Miranda Lambert. Alan Jackson set the record with ten nominations in 2002.

Wilson became the fourth artist in CMA history to receive six nominations in her first year, trailing only Glen Campbell, Brad Paisley, and Kacey Musgraves.

"Holy moly, y'all," Wilson posted on Instagram in response to the nominations list. "Someone, pinch me. "I can't believe my eyes."

Her nominees included Entertainer of the Year, which she described as "absolutely surreal."

 Her competitors in that area include Luke Combs, whose cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" topped the charts this year

Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood, and recent hitmaker Morgan Wallen. 

. Wilson's additional nominations include female vocalist, album, single, song, musical event, and music video.

Being nominated in each of these categories amongst my friends means the world to me," he said. 

"We bust our butts out there on the road every dang night to give y'all the best show possible and I have the time of my life doing it."
