New Species of Giant Ancient Sea Lizard With 'Dagger-Like Teeth' Found

Researchers have discovered a hitherto undiscovered species of "giant sea lizard" that existed during the dinosaur era and has terrifying "dagger-like" fangs.

The new species is a kind of mosasaur, which is a class of giant prehistoric marine reptiles that dominated

the waters in the later stages of the Late Cretaceous period (around 100 million to 66 million years ago),,,

according to a study published in the journal Cretaceous Research.

These ancient marine animals had long, thin bodies that resembled those of monitor lizards today,,,

but they were streamlined for swimming, with webbed toes and feet and large, strong tails.

They were proficient hunters, able to reach great speeds and bearing many pointed fangs in their jaws.

It is possible that the largest mosasaurs were almost 40 feet long.
