R.S.V. Vaccines May Slightly Increase Risk of Rare Neurological Condition

 Federal health officials reported on Thursday that there may have been a few occurrences of Guillain-Barré syndrome,,,

 a rare neurological disorder, brought on by vaccinations against the respiratory syncytial virus.

 The figures were low, roughly two cases per 100,000 vaccinated individuals or less,,,  

 and the officials stated that much more information is required to determine the exact danger.  

 The Food and Drug Administration authorized Pfizer's Abrysvo and GSK's Arexvy vaccines against R.S.V. in May 2023.

 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggested in June that persons 60 years of age or older may choose to receive a single dose of the R.S.V.  

 accination after consulting with their healthcare providers,,,

 as opposed to recommending the doses to all older adults. By February 16, fewer than 10 million doses had been given.
